German Poll Shows Growing Public Distrust of Trump

A nationwide public opinion survey conducted by an influential German publication indicates a sharp decline in confidence toward US President Donald Trump and his policies among the German population. The poll, which surveyed approximately 1,000 respondents across the country, focused on perceptions of Trump’s leadership, his foreign policy priorities, and his approach toward Germany and Europe.

According to the results, 61% of respondents believe that President Trump poses a threat to Germany’s interests. In contrast, only 24% of those surveyed said they still consider the United States under Trump’s leadership to be an ally of Germany. The remaining respondents either expressed uncertainty or declined to give a clear assessment.

The findings reflect growing unease in Germany over Washington’s recent foreign policy signals. In particular, the survey suggests that Trump’s position on Greenland has become a point of concern for many Germans. While the poll did not attribute opinions to a single policy decision, dissatisfaction appears to be linked to broader fears about geopolitical stability, transatlantic relations, and respect for European sovereignty.

Germany has traditionally viewed the United States as its most important non-European partner, especially in the areas of security and trade. However, the survey results suggest that public sentiment has shifted, with a majority of Germans now questioning whether US policies under Trump align with Germany’s long-term strategic interests.

The poll highlights a widening gap between political leaderships and public opinion on both sides of the Atlantic. As debates over security, defense commitments, and global influence continue, the data underline the challenges facing transatlantic relations in an increasingly uncertain international environment.
