TotalEnergies Signs 15-Year PPA to Power Google’s Ohio Data Centres with Solar

On November 12, 2025, TotalEnergies announced a landmark 15-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Alphabet’s Google to supply 1.5 terawatt-hours (TWh) of certified renewable electricity annually.

The energy will be generated by TotalEnergies’ Montpelier solar farm, located in Williams County, Ohio, which is nearing completion. The facility is connected to the PJM Interconnection grid, the largest power grid in the United States.

According to TotalEnergies, this agreement underlines the company’s ability to deliver tailored, long-term clean energy solutions to large-scale tech players. Stéphane Michel, President of Gas, Renewables & Power at TotalEnergies, noted that the deal aligns with its strategy to leverage its flexible, integrated renewable assets to meet growing demand.

For Google, this is part of its 24/7 carbon-free energy ambition, which aims to match its data centre power consumption with carbon-free sources wherever it operates. Will Conkling, Google’s Director of Clean Energy and Power, said the partnership will not only support its data centres but also contribute to the economic development of Ohio.

From TotalEnergies’ perspective, the deal helps stabilize its electricity business and reduce reliance on the more volatile oil and gas markets. The company is currently building a 10 GW renewables pipeline in the U.S., including solar, wind, and battery storage, with around 1 GW in the PJM market alone.

The Montpelier solar farm, with an installed capacity of about 49 MW, is expected to begin operations soon and provide the bulk of the contracted power to Google.

This deal underscores the increasing role of long-term renewable PPAs in powering energy-intensive digital infrastructure, particularly as demand from AI workloads and cloud computing continues to grow.
